Preparation
- After a thorough vaginal examination, a speculum is inserted while you exhale deeply and relax the muscles of your pelvic floor.
- Once there is a clear view of the portio, gynecologist will swap the cervix with antiseptic and stabilize the uterus by holding the anterior lip of the cervix with the tenaculum forceps. You will be asked to cough at this step to minimize the discomfort from the forceps.
- If the uterus is in the retroflexed position, the posterior lip of the cervix can be held.
- The cervical canal will be stretched gently with forceps.
